Acupuncture For PCOS

Stephen Bonzak, founder and director of Health Traditions, is a board-certified acupuncturist. With advanced study and over 15 years of experience, he treats clients with a wide variety of health conditions, including PCOS, using natural treatments.

Instead of following a standard protocol for every patient with PCOS, Stephen takes the time to understand the patterns contributing to your symptoms and build a treatment plan around you.

Stephen may incorporate Chinese herbal medicine, cupping, or other traditional therapies into your treatment along with acupuncture when necessary. Every patient receives direct, unhurried attention and a treatment plan created specifically for their health and goals.

PCOS is a complex condition involving more than the ovaries alone. The nervous system, endocrine system, metabolism, circulation, inflammation, and reproductive system can all play a role in how PCOS affects your body.

Acupuncture works with these interconnected systems to encourage healthier function throughout the body. While every patient responds differently, treatment may provide support in several important areas.

Reduces Stress

Improves Circulation

Regulates HPO Axis

Improves Insulin Sensitivity

Reduces Inflammation

Supports Ovulation and Fertility

Acupuncture is just one way to support your health. At Health Traditions, we provide other therapies that can complement your acupuncture treatment.

Depending on your symptoms and diagnosis, Stephen may recommend complementary treatments such as cupping or customized herbal medicine. These therapies are not automatically added to every PCOS treatment plan. They are selected according to what your body needs and may change as your health improves.

Your first visit to Health Traditions begins with a thorough consultation. Stephen will review your health history and discuss your symptoms to better understand your individual needs and determine how acupuncture can fit into your broader treatment plan.

You can expect acupuncture treatment for your following visits. The needles typically remain in place for approximately 20 to 30 minutes. The experience is generally comfortable and relaxing, and many patients rest or fall asleep during treatment. Stephen can adjust the treatment according to your comfort level and may incorporate additional therapies, such as Chinese herbal medicine or cupping, when appropriate.

The number and frequency of treatments depend on your symptoms and goals. Some patients begin with weekly visits and gradually schedule appointments less often as their symptoms improve. Stephen will monitor your progress and adjust your treatment plan over time.

PCOS acupuncture may be a good fit if you want a natural therapy that can work alongside your existing healthcare plan.

Patients come to Health Traditions for many different reasons. You may benefit from exploring acupuncture if you:

  • Have irregular, infrequent, or unpredictable menstrual cycles
  • Want natural support for hormonal regulation
  • Are trying to encourage more consistent ovulation
  • Want complementary fertility support while trying to conceive
  • Are undergoing IUI, IVF, or another form of assisted reproductive treatment
  • Are working to improve insulin sensitivity and metabolic health
  • Experience acne or other PCOS-related skin concerns
  • Want help managing stress while living with a chronic hormonal condition
  • Prefer individualized care that looks beyond isolated symptoms

Every patient responds differently, so there is no set number of acupuncture sessions required for PCOS. In general, we recommend beginning with regular appointments so treatment has time to create meaningful changes. As you improve, visits may become less frequent.

Acupuncture is not intended to automatically replace medication prescribed for PCOS.
Many patients use acupuncture alongside medications such as metformin, hormonal birth control, or fertility medications.

If you are currently taking prescription medication, continue following the guidance of the healthcare professional who prescribed it. Our goal is to support your health naturally while working safely within your existing healthcare plan.

Most patients find acupuncture very comfortable. Acupuncture needles are extremely thin and are very different from the hollow needles used for injections or blood draws. You may notice a brief sensation as a needle is inserted, followed by warmth, tingling, heaviness, or a gentle feeling of pressure. Once the needles are in place, most patients relax comfortably for the remainder of the session. Some even fall asleep. Your treatment is always adjusted to your comfort level.

Yes. Health Traditions works with insurance plans that include qualifying acupuncture benefits.
Because every insurance plan is different, coverage can vary based on your carrier, deductible, and specific benefits.

You can submit your insurance information through Health Traditions so we can verify your acupuncture benefits before treatment. If you have questions about coverage, contact our office and we will help you understand your options.

At Health Traditions, we take the time to understand how PCOS is affecting your body and build a personalized treatment plan designed to help you return to greater balance. Whether you are looking for more regular periods, fertility support, or simply a more natural way to take care of your health, we are here to help you find the right path forward.
